Dan DeWitt, Paula Bridgesm take Iron Rail Day titles
MOUNT SAVAGE -- Daniel DeWitt and Paula Bridges captured the men's and women's titles, respectively, on Sunday in the first Iron Rail Days 5K run through historic Mount Savage.
DeWitt won in 18 minutes, 16.9 seconds, eeking out a 0.3-second win over fellow Frostburg resident Jaron Hawkins (18:17.2). Grantsville resident Tom Ruckert, 57, was third overall and first masters runner in 19:50.1.
Frostburg resident Barb Surgent, 64, finished in 30:38.5 to win the women's masters crown. Read More

NEW CREEK, W.Va., Oct. 2 -- Frankfort senior Rebekah McBride knew last year's sixth-place finish in the AMAC cross country championships was just a fluke.
After Thursday's dominating performance at Keyser High School in this year's AMAC championship event, everybody else knows it, too.

CUMBERLAND, Oct. 3 – Grantsville resident Tom Ruckert and Cumberland’s Rob Smith have an annual back-and-forth during the Queen City Striders racing circuit standings.
Ruckert, 57, and Smith, 44, rib each other good-naturedly as they vie for the top spot in the season-ending standings. Going into the 28th annual Great Allegany Run 15K (9.3-mile) run on Saturday, Ruckert held a four-point lead with three races left. Read More
