Inaugural GCWA Halloween 5k in Midland
More Information
The George¹s Creek Watershed Association (GCWA) will be hosting a Halloween 5k Run and 1 Mile Fun Run in the Town of Midland on October 25, 2008 at 8:00 a.m. The scenic and challenging 5k Course will begin at the George¹s Creek Bridge on Union Street and wind through the Town of Midland along residential streets and Route 36. There is a slight uphill section approaching the first half mile and a steep uphill section approaching the second mile followed by a rolling downhill stretch just after the second mile.
All proceeds from the race will support the ongoing and future projects of the GCWA. In the first half of 2008, the GCWA engaged over 1000 volunteer hours in environmental stewardship projects and educational outreach. Recent projects include rain barrel workshops, watershed tours for area schools, tree plantings at the Knapps Meadow Streambank Restoration site, and the beginnings of tree nursery projects at Westmar Middle School and Fort Hill High School.
A $50 cash prize is offered for the overall male and female and overall male and female masters winners in the 5k. Non-cash awards will be offered to the top three male and female finishers in each age division.
Awards will be presented immediately following the race. The first 100 paying participants are guaranteed a performance fabric commemorative shirt supplied by EnduraFit, and all participants will receive a race day bag with a special gift from Subaru. Following the race, we will have awards, refreshments, and door prizes including chances to win gift certificates to area restaurants and tickets to a Pittsburg Pirates game among other prizes.
Entry fees are $15 for adults and $10 for youth (under 18) participants. Children 8 and under are welcome to join in on the 1 Mile Fun Run free of charge.
Race day registration will begin at 7:00 a.m. at the Midland Fire Hall.
