KINGWOOD, W.Va. -- Seniors Cory Hampshire of Jefferson and Ari Kasprowicz of host Preston cruised to individual victories Saturday morning at the Mountaintop Combo Invitational at Preston High School.

Kasprowicz dominated from start to finish, taking the lead for good at the half-mile mark and finishing in a course-record time of 19 minutes, 5.75 seconds, bettering the old mark set by Berkeley Springs harrier Rachel Buser by 1.25 seconds. Courtney Yeager of Wheeling Park was second in 19:45..75.

Hampshire and North Marion's Zach Tennant exchanged leads during the hilly, wooded section of the race and Hampshire didn't take his second - and final - lead until nearly 900 meters from the finish line. Hampshire finished in 16:17.44, 3.44 seconds off the course record held by Mikias Gelagle of Eleanor Roosevelt set in 2005. Tennant placed second overall in 16:32.75..

In the combo-style team standings, the Jefferson Cougars placed at the top of the standings with 238 points. The host Knights were second with 289 points and Morgantown was third with 298.

Complete race details including interviews with Kasprowicz, Hampshire, Tenant and others, as well as video and thousands of photos still to come....
