Taylor County & Grafton take part in the Preston Knights’ Night Relays

KINGWOOD -- First it was the ‘COMBO Meet,’ and now it is the 4 x 1.5-mile Night Relays, as Preston High School Coach Paul Martin continues to come up with new and clever ideas to break up the doldrums of long-distance running.

Martin, who is a former coach at Taylor County Middle School and later at Grafton High School, invited his old teams up to join in on the fun last Saturday.

In the Middle School Girls’ Division, Taylor County’s A-Team placed second with a combined time of 40 minutes and 57 seconds during the six-mile race.

Kari Fawcett (9:42), Shelby McDougal (10:07), Jessica Malone (10:44) and Megan Miller (10:24) made up that unit.

Fawcett’s effort of nine minutes and 42 seconds was also the third-best individual performance of this meet, finishing behind winner Joy Childs (9:31) of Morgantown South and runner-up Brynn Harshberger (9:42) of Morgantown Sun Crest
