WOODSBORO -- Walkersville's Stephen Keith was upset with his performances in his team's first two meets this year and was determined to turn things around at Wednesday's Mountain Run.
"One of my goals here this season was to win here, hopefully set the course record," he said.

He reached his goal, winning the Mountain Run and leading the Lions boys to the team title in the process. It marked the first time Walkesville has won the individual or team title at the meet.

Keith came close to the meet record with a time of 16 minutes, 31.99 seconds, two seconds off the meet record.

The Lions finished first with 62 points, far ahead of second-place Winters Mill (119) and third-place Thomas Johnson (128) and Century (128).

"It's special; it's our invitational and we never won it before," Walkersville coach Rob Wilhelm said. "It means a lot to me. It means a lot to the guys, too." Read More

WOODSBORO, Md. — Clear Spring senior Jason Hill continued his strong start to the cross country season by finishing second in the boys race Wednesday at the Mountain Run at Woodsboro Park.

Hill had the lead by a couple steps at the one-mile mark, but Walkersville’s Stephen Keith pulled away in the final two miles for the victory in 16 minutes, 32.0 seconds. Hill hung on for second in 16:56.0.

“I went a little too fast,” said Hill, who won small school boys races at the Interstate Classic and the Brunswick Invitational earlier this season. “The guy who won wasn’t even up there at the beginning, and he saved it. It felt like I wanted to quit, but I didn’t.”

“We knew this course would be a different test for him,” said Blazers coach Jaime Mason. “There’s no hills like this in Clear Spring. Once he gets stronger on hills, he’ll have more successful days.” Read More
